Happy Weekend Vintnerds!
We have you all set for a proper spooky season night (or two).
Saturday Movie Night : I Saw The TV Glow (Max)
Drink: Gragnano
Eat: Pizza
ISTTVG is a revolutionary experience. From the same writer-director of “We Are All Going To The World’s Fair,” ISTTVG tracks two teens in the late 90s as they obsess over a weekly late night TV show and struggle with their own queer identities. To say more would give it all away, but just know that this is the best two hours you can spend this weekend.
A part of the movie takes place in a “fun center” which had me craving cheap pizza and a sparkling red to pair. Gragnano is a bit of a rare wine, but it’s slowly making its way into more and more stores across the US. Think a lighter Lambrusco- fruit forward, dry but jammy, and pairs perfectly with pizza.
All Weekend Binge: From (MGM+)
Drink: Moscato
Eat: Pancakes
From starts off with a real gut punch of a scene that puts this show to the top of horror TV, and it doesn’t let up from there. While some readers may be fearful this is another “Lost” in the making, From delivers enough horror and scares to be a satisfying watch. At 10 episodes per season and season 3 just getting started, this is a binge you can enjoy all spooky season.
A major part of the plot happens in a diner, hence our pairing recommendation. While you probably haven’t had a Moscato in a while, this sweet wine from your 20’s actually pairs perfectly with syrupy sweet pancakes. Just maybe try a brand other than Cupcake.
Read (with the lights on): Dearest by Jacquie Walters
Drink: Chardonnay
Eat: Sushi
Motherhood as horror is a theme that always works. In this debut, Walters adds in the horror of being a daughter as well. Fast paced, demons abound, creepy voices over baby monitors, unreliable narrators, and more make this a great weekend read if you’re looking to avoid screen time.
Sushi and Chardonnay is the most Mom meal we can think of! If you’re normally an ABC drinker, try an Oregon or French Chardonnay rather than California. A Chablis will pair perfectly with sushi.
