Happy Friday Vintnerds!
We’re feeling like staying in this weekend and absorbing some cozy spooky vibes before next weekend’s Halloween parties commence. To that end, we’ve rounded up some great streaming choices for your spooky pleasure this weekend!
Totally Killer (Prime)
Is Kiernan Shipka officially a Scream Queen? If not, may we present this movie as evidence to make it official? Shipka is darling as the lead in this movie that’s about cool moms, time travel, long held grudges, and 80s nostalgia. It’s pretty low on the scary meter, but so fun for a weekend Halloween romp.
Pair With: Trader Joe’s Herbs & Spices Popcorn ($3) + Saint Hilaire Brut ($14)
Late Night With The Devil (AMC+)
Framed as a documentary on a Late Night talk show in 1977, this film delivers pitch perfect 70’s vibes as a talk show featuring a possessed girl and her keeper keeps getting more and more demonic. Is the possession real? Is this all an elaborate result of hypnotization? Definitely higher on the scare factor, this film lingers with you long after you’ve watched the credits roll.
Pair with: Fondue (a 70s classic) + Chablis
His House (Netflix )
Holding 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, His House is a powerhouse of a horror film. Both with supernatural terrors and real life horror, this film features a refugee couple from South Sudan who lose their daughter on their passage into the UK. Anything more would be too telling, but this is by far one of Netflix’s best horror ventures- and yes, that includes Mike Flannagan’s work.
Pair With: Hand Cut Fries (British pub style, cover them in vinegar) + An Off Dry Riseling
The Feast (Hulu)
Filled with body horror, vengeful nature, and a little bit of class critique, The Feast is a lush watching experience of beautiful Welsh countryside One reviewer called it a “horror fairytale”, and that perfectly encapsulates the vibes of The Feast.
Pair with: Welsh Rarebit (AKA the best cheese on toast, ever) + Grenache
Let us know what you’re watching this weekend. We’ll see you next week with more scary favs!
